Transgender people are those who identify with a different gender than the one they were assigned at birth. They may be cisgender (a person whose gender identity matches their assigned sex at birth) or transgender (a person whose gender identity does not match their assigned sex at birth).
Transgender people may also be referred to as transgendered individuals or simply transgenders.
